Position Description:
We are searching for an advanced SAS programmer with strong analytic experience and healthcare industry background to join our team. As an analyst within the Innovative Health Solutions group, you will contribute to building approaches to improve the health care system.
The person in this position will investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization, quality and cost data. The analyst will be part of team that is responsible for providing business leaders with data to identify ways to improve health care delivery systems, inform solution design and evaluate the impact of those solutions. The primary focus of this position will be writing SAS programs that efficiently access and manipulate data from large data bases to produce accurate results.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Extract and aggregate data from multiple sources (including large complex databases)
• Clean and summarize data to support research analyses
• Investigate data quality issues
• Select, recommend and apply appropriate analytic techniques and research methodologies
• Work collaboratively on teams that include programmers, researchers and business leaders
• Actively contribute to all phases of analyses including: design, execution, quality assurance, interpretation and presentation of results
• Use advanced statistical and inferential analysis programs to provide specialized data analysis
• Organize, sort and filter data in order to distinguish patterns and recognize trends
• Develop and maintain data preparation and validation routines to support data mining and has experience in creating complex data mining algorithms
• Select, recommend and apply appropriate analytic and statistical methodologies and techniques to execute against an analysis plan or research objectives
• Evaluate new analytics tools and methodologies for possible deployment
• Creates data warehouses/marts and/or develops data mining analyses to support business decisions

Typical Day Information:
• Write SAS programs to conduct ad-hoc analysis to identify opportunities to improve health care quality and reduce medical expense as well as evaluate the effectiveness of health care programs.
• Extract, aggregate and perform quality assurance on data from multiple sources (e.g, health care claims, surveys, care management systems)
• Investigate data quality and develop creative solutions to compensate for data issues.
• Develops and maintains data preparation and validation routines to support data mining and analysis.
• Selects, recommends and applies appropriate analytic and statistical methodologies and techniques
• Creates data warehouses/marts to support data mining or analyses
• Actively contribute to all phases of analyses including: design, execution, quality assurance, interpretation and presentation of results.
• Work collaboratively on teams that include programmers, researchers and business leaders
A successful candidate demonstrates the following capabilities:
• Advance knowledge of Base SAS ad data step programming
• Advanced knowledge of health care claims
• Ability to creatively use large datasets to produce high quality analyses and measurements
• Broad knowledge of the healthcare system (e.g., benefit designs, provider contracting, reimbursement policies, clinical care
Qualifications:
• 3+ years experience writing advanced Data Step SAS programs
• 5+ years experience SAS programming experience
• 3+ years experience analyzing healthcare claims data
• 3+ years experience efficiently integrating data from large relational databases
• 5+ years analyzing health care data
• Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, public health, economics, or related field a plus
• Experience working in a UNIX environment preferred
• Microsoft Office proficiency preferred
